Stratagems refer to dazzling deceptive devices. It tells that many modern‑day persons engage in diverse callings, yet earn wealth through crooked means. They resort to deceptive tricks — hanging a sheep’s head while selling dog’s flesh. Their shop‑fronts appear bright and reputable, yet behind closed doors they operate disguised lewd enterprises, utterly base.
Openly they display bewitching charms and coquettish allure; secretly they conceal confusing vortices that incite lechery. Numerous resolute‑minded men sink into these snares; countless students wander there, forgetting to depart.
Bewitching charms are beguiling smiles. Coquettish allure means seductive glances. To incite lechery is to arouse licentious desire. These disguised dens of vice present colorful exteriors filled with alluring women who exhibit coquettish graces and seek to draw men into destructive swirling eddies. Hidden within are snares provoking sexual misconduct, inflicting great harm. Numerous promising, resolute‑spirited men are ruined therein. Multitudes of young students are lured to linger in dissolute quarters, neglecting their studies; indulging in lust, they are also gravely unfilial.
All manner of trades are permissible to pursue, yet the karmic sins of lecherous businesses they choose are profound. Wrongdoers endure cruel torments in Avīci Hell, their descendants laden with retribution and enduring perpetual infamy.
All manner of trades refers to every form of legitimate commerce. Lecherous businesses denote enterprises profiting from sexual debauchery. While people may take up any lawful occupation, operating bawdy establishments incurs heavy karmic sin. Transgressors face brutal torment within Avīci Hell in the afterlife. Their descendants also suffer karmic retribution. Should anyone ask about their ancestors’ livelihoods, admitting they ran brothels will bring towering infamy and shame lasting through eternity.
Do not say that lingering in pleasure‑houses to rapture the soul brings delight in seeking gratification.
Lingering means unrestrained tarrying. To rapture the soul is to be spiritually bewitched. Seeking gratification is chasing sensual thrills. Let none imagine that abandoning restraint, being ensnared by feminine charms and hunting for pleasure are something to boast of.
Though transactions are made with silver and coin, their spiritual nature cannot escape defilement. Though no eyes behold it as witness, within the dark chamber the heart itself feels remorse.
Transactions denote buying and selling. Spiritual nature refers to the original nature of one’s soul. Defilement means moral stain. The dark chamber signifies secret privacy. Even when sensual indulgence is purchased with money, one’s inmost spirit is stained. Though no onlookers are present, deep within secrecy the conscience feels guilt and shame.
Once depraved thoughts arise, evil notions spring forth. Their personal and household purity is forfeited, and baneful seedlings take root within their mind field.
