The female soul knelt in agony, pleading for mercy. “Bodhisattva, save me! I kowtow to you. When I was alive, no one dared point out my faults. If anyone uttered even a word of criticism against me, I would instantly retaliate with vicious words and even resort to violence. I liked striking people on the head, for it could render them unconscious, and then I would prevail. I craved victory and would never admit defeat. Having heard your teachings today, I realize I committed grave wrongs. I acknowledge my transgressions; I beg you to deliver me from the hells!”
At that moment, the hell attendants led the female soul away.
I saw that the female soul’s mind light was no longer as dim as before, yet it remained far from bright. I asked Earth Store Bodhisattva: “Must this female soul endure all her karmic punishments in the hells in full before she may depart?”
Earth Store Bodhisattva instructed: “Thanks to the karmic affinity she forms here today, she may encounter the true Dharma and cultivate when reborn in the human world in the distant future. For now, we merely enable her to plant a virtuous seed of affinity.”
I was grateful for Earth Store Bodhisattva’s guidance. These teachings were like ambrosia pouring straight into my body and mind!
I bowed to thank the Bodhisattva and took my leave.
