Appendix I The Nether Penal Code Against Licentiousness
Of all karmic transgressions, licentiousness is the gravest. Such offenses bear heavy consequences in the mortal world, yet penalties in the netherworld are more severe. Its forms of chastisement are numerous; herein are the key provisions. All who read this text must take warning and exert self‑restraint.
Those guilty of incest must be confined eternally in hell. Anyone who takes another’s life shall perish, struck by lightning. Those who desecrate corpses incur the same punishment. Those who have already endured earthly punishment shall be spared the lightning calamity. Acts of filiality and loyalty may offset forty percent of one’s sins; fifteen hundred major virtuous deeds likewise offset forty percent.
Those who rape widows shall die childless, endure torments in hell across five hundred kalpas, then be reborn as insects and ants for another five hundred kalpas, next as beasts and fowl for a further five hundred kalpas. After these fifteen hundred kalpas in total, they may finally reincarnate as humans, only to be born as prostitutes. Those who suffer earthly punishment shall be exempt from one hundred kalpas of torment. If the crime also involves murder, the penalty shall be raised by five grades. Loyal and filial deeds can halve the karmic debt; five hundred major virtuous deeds shall also serve as a fifty percent offset.
Those who seduce widows shall have no heirs for two generations. They shall endure four hundred kalpas of torment in hell, then live as insects and ants for another four hundred kalpas, and as beasts for a further four hundred kalpas. When reborn as humans again, they shall be born with physical disabilities. Those who have received earthly punishment shall be spared eighty kalpas of suffering. If the crime involves killing another person, their punishment shall be raised by four grades. Acts of loyalty and filial piety can offset seventy percent of their karmic sins; five hundred moderate virtuous deeds shall likewise offset seventy percent.
